Fittingly, the story of Tive and its meteoric rise to become one of the world’s leading providers of supply chain visibility solutions began at the family dinner table in 2015. Lively conversation, interrupted by more than a few phone calls, provided some serious food for thought: there has to be a better way to track freight shipments globally. Today, the industry recognizes the company’s proprietary trackers and cloud-based solution as among the world’s best, evidenced by Tive’s No. 18 ranking on the FreightWaves FreightTech 25 for 2023. This is Tive’s first appearance in the prestigious FreightTech 25 list.

What is FreightWaves’ FreightTech 25?

The FreightTech 25, published annually by FreightWaves, honors companies considered by industry peers to be the most innovative and disruptive in the freight technology space. The process starts with a handpicked group of CEOs, industry leaders, and investors actively participating in freight, selecting the FreightTech 100 (Tive appeared in the Top 100 for the second consecutive year).

From there, a points system based on how voters rank the companies determines the FreightTech 25. For instance, each first-place vote nets a company 25 points, a second-place gets 24 points, and so on through a 25th-place vote gets one point. Votes get tallied, and companies are ranked based on total points.

The methodology is the same as The Associated Press (media) and USA Today (coaches) use to generate their respective weekly rankings of college football and basketball teams.

2023 FreightTech 25 Features 10 Newcomers

Tive, a Boston-based company, is one of 10 newcomers to join 15 repeat honorees on the FreightTech 25, led by project44, a provider of an advanced supply chain visibility platform for shippers and third-party logistics firms. Project44, a partner with Tive in the Open Visibility Network, held the No. 1 spot on the FreightTech 25 for the second consecutive year.

FreightWaves Founder and CEO Craig Fuller presented the 2023 FreightTech 25 alongside Senior Meteorologist Kaylee Nix on Nov. 3, 2022, at F3: Future of Freight Festival in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Turning a Dream into Reality: The Evolution of Tive

Tive’s inclusion in the FreightTech 25 validates just how far Tive Founder and CEO Krenar Komoni’s dream has come since that evening in 2015 when he was having dinner with his in-laws. Watching his father-in-law working the phones to communicate with his shipping company’s drivers concerning freight location and condition, Krenar thought there had to be a better way for supply chain professionals to have real-time visibility into shipments.

Krenar tackled the challenge head-on and created Tive, a company on a mission to provide shippers, 3PLs, and logistics service providers (LSPs) with the hardware, software, and 24/7 support to help them eliminate preventable delays and damage.

After seven years of constant innovation, Tive’s proprietary trackers capture and transmit real-time shipment data, including hyper-accurate location, temperature, humidity, and shock/vibrations. The Solo 5G tracker, available for single or multi-use and with or without lithium batteries, can be applied at the shipment or container level on all modes of freight transport: road, air, ocean, and rail.

Each tracker’s sensors transmit location and condition data to a cloud-based application, where shippers and other supply chain stakeholders can view and proactively manage their shipments in real-time. Automated pre-configurable alerts notify stakeholders of issues anywhere along the supply chain. This technology assures supply chain professionals and customers that every effort is being made to deliver freight on time and in full

The Quest for Innovation Never Ends

Tive’s latest product offerings — a complete cold chain solution for the pharmaceuticals and biologic industries and Tive Tag temperature loggers — prove the company’s pursuit of greater supply chain visibility continues daily. And now the industry, and the world, are increasingly taking notice.

“As relentless innovators, we are extremely proud to be recognized by FreightWaves on this impressive FreightTech 25 list of companies working to advance the freight technology space,” Komoni said. “We constantly seek new and innovative ways to make end-to-end supply chain visibility available to everyone in the transportation industry. This award clearly demonstrates that our hard work successfully advances our mission.”
