Introduction

Founded in 2009 and based in Tacoma, Washington, Infinity Global Xpress (IGX) has deep logistics expertise—including air, drayage, LTL/LCL, intermodal, truckload, 3PL, and warehousing. IGX designs and implements industry solutions in freight management, delivering operational excellence and providing viable answers to the most challenging supply chain questions.

IGX wanted a reliable solution for tracking high-value shipments—and relying on drivers to accurately report updates wasn’t working. Drivers sometimes switched off their communication tools, and IGX was left in the dark. But when a truck carrying cargo for a major international retailer went missing, IGX sprang into action—and started actively exploring the real-time visibility market for a solution.

According to Joel Boyd, Vice President of Business Development at IGX, “We were entirely too dependent on drivers keeping the phone on during the entire trip and participating actively with us—and something had to change.” That need led them straight to Tive.

Real-Time Visibility = Total Control

IGX kicked off a trial using six Solo 5G Non-Lithium trackers, and—impressed by the end-to-end visibility and security provided by the trackers, plus the cloud platform—quickly integrated Tive into their Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Since adding Tive, IGX has been able to overcome critical tracking challenges—and has also helped strengthen their relationship with a key client. “With Tive, we know there’s a physical unit in the back of the load and we’re tracking it—in real time—every step of the way,” says Boyd.

In logistics, traceability is king—and the ability to track shipments in real time gives IGX unprecedented oversight. With Tive, IGX can identify discrepancies and address issues immediately, as they occur. “We have had several instances where one of our preferred carriers has a distribution center in the Midwest. They took the load to the DC, and then they didn't turn off their secondary tracking… so all of a sudden, we showed a truck going across the country—but the Tive tracker showed the load sitting idle in a warehouse.” IGX was able to quickly contact the carrier and resolve the issue.

“Everything turned out okay—but we would have never had that visibility without Tive,” stated Boyd.

Geofencing + Hiding Trackers Inside Cargo = Reduced Cargo Theft

At IGX, cargo security is always a primary concern. Like a majority of logistics providers, IGX has had periodic loads diverted and stolen—and that’s when they started hiding Tive trackers inside boxes. “We had an incident in which a load was diverted. It was unloaded and loaded to another truck before we could react to what was going on—and we lost complete control of it,” Boyd recounted.

Hiding trackers inside boxes has proven to be extremely effective. Continued Boyd, “The theory was if thieves are going to take the time to transload our cargo into another truck and take off with it, they’re probably not going to start opening boxes until later.”

The geofencing capabilities users can set up in the Tive platform also quickly became crucial for preventing unauthorized route changes, enabling IGX to monitor routes closely and respond swiftly to deviations—significantly mitigating the risk of theft.

“Geofencing was one of the biggest selling points for IGX—as well as for our customers,” says Boyd. “When we saw that we could put rules around routes—that we could clearly state where loads could and couldn’t go—we were hooked. And if a driver crosses any of these lines it sends us an immediate alert so we can react instantly.”

Improved Operational Efficiency & Customer Collaboration

Tive not only enhances shipment security, it helps companies streamline operations. As an example, alerts sent from the Tive platform can be used to improve delivery scheduling and receiver preparedness. “Tive geofencing alerts are very helpful for our receivers. When a shipment is a set number of miles away from a warehouse, the Tive platform sends an alert so the receiver knows his trucks are coming in,” said Boyd.

Tive also helps IGX improve customer collaboration. “We add a Tive tracker link into a Google doc for each load, and then share that link with transportation managers—so they can directly access the shipment link in the platform,” says Boyd. The platform map displays shipments as they move around the country, and IGX’s client transportation managers really appreciate that level of visibility. Boyd continued, “This level of transparency provides our clients with tremendous peace of mind, and helps foster an even stronger partnership with IGX.”

Driver Accountability & Future Growth

As an added bonus, Tive’s tracking capabilities also improve the accountability of IGX drivers. Boyd shared an instance during which a truck broke down. “We have had trucks break down, and we contact dispatch to ask that the driver take a picture of the trailer and unbroken seal—to show us that that load is still intact.” This helps IGX ensure that loads remain secure during unexpected stops.

Looking ahead, IGX plans to leverage their success using Tive to attract new business to their portfolio, highlighting their intention to market the enhanced tracking capabilities they offer. According to Boyd, “Tive is a big differentiator, and I believe it will help us win more business.” Not only does Tive help improve relationships with all their clients, Tive has been specifically instrumental in strengthening their relationship with a major retailer, who now mandates Tive trackers be used on all their shipments—and has even awarded them additional lanes.

Says Boyd, “I would have never gotten that additional business if it wasn’t for Tive trackers.”
